Partial lunar eclipse tonight in Arizona

partialeclipse

It'll be a once-in-a-lifetime sight in the Arizona sky early Friday morning. The longest partial lunar eclipse in nearly 600 years will be visible. The cosmic phenomenon is expected to last three and a half hours.

According to NASA, the partial eclipse will begin around 12:19 a.m. Arizona time. The moon will look like a bite has been taken out of it. Around 1:45 a.m., the moon will start to appear red. The eclipse peak will be around 2:03 a.m., with more than 97% of the moon being covered, NASA said.

The partial eclipse will be ending around 5:04 a.m. For Arizonans hoping to check it out, clouds could be a problem around those hours, especially in the Valley.

There hasn't been a longer partial lunar eclipse since February 18, 1440.
